Bullying/Sexual Harassment Policy
Policy
Checkers is dedicated to providing a caring, friendly, and safe environment for its members providing them a relaxed and secure environment. Bullying or sexual harassment of any type of any kind will not be tolerated.
Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to:
provide a clear definition of bullying and/or sexual harassment and associated consequences of this behavior, and
provide direction for members who feel they have been bullied or sexually harassed
Bullying Defined
Bullying is the use of aggression with the intention of hurting another person. Bullying results in pain and distress to the victim.
Bullying can be either verbal or physical. Verbal bullying can include racial taunts, abusive comments, name-calling, sarcasm, or teasing. Examples of physical abuse can include pushing, kicking, hitting, punching, or any use of violence.
Sexual Harassment Defined
Harassment includes:
- unwelcome sexual flirtation, advances or propositions.
- sex-based conduct that is intimidating, hostile or offensive
- requests for sexual favors
- verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature
- continued or repeated verbal abuse of a sexual nature
- sexually degrading language to describe an individual
- unwelcome remarks of a sexual nature to describe a persons body or clothing
- display of sexually demeaning objects or pictures
- offensive physical contact, such as unwelcome touching
- coerced sexual intercourse
- sexual assault
- rape, date or acquaintance rape, or other sex offenses either forcible or non-forcible
Scope
All Checkers Athletic Club members are subject to this policy.
Consequences
Consequences for harassment may include and are not limited to:
- verbal and written warning
- revocation of Checkers Athletic Club membership - readmission subject to board approval
- loss of eligibility and dismissal from all Checkers Athletic Club activities
- criminal charges
